バクナー中将慰霊碑清掃参加The LTGen Buckner Monument cleaning up
おじいちゃんは、３月１６日（土）午前、バクナー中将慰霊碑（糸満市）において実施されたおじいちゃんが団委員長を務めるボーイスカウト豊見城1団の清掃活動に参加しました。
Scout Group Tomigsuku 1 cleanuped at the LTGen Buckner Monument in the morning on March 16 (Sat).
今年は、ＢＳＡＢＳ10１隊・ＣＳ1隊及び米陸軍からの参加が予定されていましたが、アメリカ側からの参加はなく、豊見城１団も数か所の保育所の卒園式などと重なり、参加者は少なかったです。
This year, participants from BSA Troop 101, Pack 101, and the U.S. Army were scheduled to participate, but there were no participants from the American side, and Scout Group Tomigusuku 1 had some nursery school graduation ceremonies, so the number of participants was small.
清掃活動開始前に行われた開会式では、おじいちゃんが次の説明をしました。
①この地で日本とアメリカの戦争があったこと。
②７８年前の６月に、この地でアメリカ軍の司令官バクナー中将が、摩文仁で日本軍の司令官牛島中将が戦死して沖縄線が終わったこと。
③戦後沖縄各地に多くの慰霊塔が建立されていること。
④この地にはバクナー中将慰霊碑が建立されていること。
⑤バクナー慰霊碑清掃は、２００７年に金城育成会長の息子の金城岳志さんのスカウト時代、彼のイーグルスカウトプロジェクトとして始まったこと。
⑥１６年前３本の植樹で始まった桜が今や４５本を越え、バクナーヒルが桜の名所に近付いている事。
At the opening ceremony held before the start of the cleanup activities, Mr. Ken Nakai (Committee Chairman for Scout Group Tomig) explained the followings．
(1)There was a war between Japan and America on this land.
(2)In June 78 years ago, the American commander Lieutenant General Buckner here and the Japanese commander Lieutenant General Ushijima died in Mabuni in battle, ending the Okinawa line.
(3)After the war, many memorial monuments were built all over Okinawa.
(4)A memorial monument to Lieutenant General Buckner is erected here.
(5)This event began in 2007 as his son’s Eagle Scout project when he was a s a scout.
(6)Since 2008, this business have been in cooperation with the volunteers from BSA and U.S. military, then it evolved into the large-scale clean-up activities now. So this year, this business is the 13 years. 17 years ago, he planted 3 cherry trees, it increased to 45 or more.
作業は１０時からスタートしましたが、数日前に沖縄県平和祈念財団によって雑草の刈り取りが行われたばかりで、落ち葉拾いなどの作業を行いました。
Work started from 10:00, Since the weeds were just cut by the Okinawa Peace Memorial Foundation few days ago, the participants did work such as picking up fallen leaves.
